These birds have received their name for the humming sound that they make with their wings. Small species beat their wings up to 50 times a second; larger varieties make 18-30 beats a second. The smallest species is the Bee bird, which is 2 inches in length. Hummingbird photography may be a great hobby, as taking a picture and photo of these birds is fun.
